Richmond area parents who care deeply about their children’s education have many good options. The heart of a school’s academic and co-curricular program is its reason for being. Veritas Classical Christian School was founded to fulfill our Mission Statement in the life of every student:
To glorify God by cultivating students of wisdom and virtue through a Christ-centered, academically rigorous classical education.
C.S. Lewis, the famous Cambridge and Oxford professor and Chronicles of Narnia author, compared education to gardening. At Veritas, we plant the seeds of essential knowledge, and we consistently cultivate the minds and spirits of our students so that knowledge takes root. Our educational approach focuses our attention on both knowledge and character as we teach, coach, and encourage every student to realize his or her potential.
Our first aim is to glorify God. This means, at root, that we remember to give God credit for the accomplishments and benefits that his love for us makes possible. When you visit our campus this year, you will see students and teachers practicing the habit of thanking God and acknowledging his goodness.
The two basic values that characterize an educated person at Veritas are wisdom and virtue. Wisdom and virtue both begin with knowledge, and we are a learning community. Not only do we want to do wise and virtuous things, but we study people who have influenced the world around us for good. Our curriculum also examines the effects of ignorance, selfishness, and wickedness in the world. Our students learn that Christian people are used to relieve human suffering through the exercise of wise and virtuous leadership.
The educational program is Christ-centered. That is, we believe and teach that Jesus Christ created the world and that he is its rightful ruler. Every true thing we learn—from math to history—teaches us about Christ’s creative imagination and power. All the more reason to give him credit!
This also means that we take learning seriously. The Veritas curriculum is age-appropriately rigorous, providing students with every academic advantage for the future. It is also classical. Traditional language arts and mathematics form the core of the curriculum. The entire academic experience is designed to shape thinking people with the ability to communicate truthfully and compellingly with the next generation.
We are celebrating 10 years of serving Richmond area families with the highest quality educational experience. We are growing, and we value every student entrusted to our care.
Visit our campus, won’t you? Let’s explore together how you and your family might benefit as we grow together at Veritas.
