"Veritas is a place of inquiry and interaction geared to meet the intense curiosity of students"
Grammar (Elementary) School Coursework Distinctives

  • Integration of the Christian Worldview
The lower school classroom begins each day with Scripture, devotion and class prayer time. Each day, the lower school studies the Scriptures using a story-based, chronological approach to teaching Bible, with the entire sequence of the Bible being presented four times during the course of a student's grammar years. This foundation prepares the student for more advanced study in Bible interpretation, doctrine, and apologetics at the upper school level. Through their personal example and their instruction, the teachers apply a Biblical worldview in every subject, training the students to think Christianly about all of life.
  • Quality Instruction in Core Academic Disciplines
Veritas School's program focuses on quality instruction in the six core academic disciplines: Biblical Studies, History, English/Literature, Science, Mathematics, and Latin. At the grammar level, students are introduced to the essential facts, or "grammar", of each of these disciplines. Students sing, recite poetry, and complete projects and journals as they acquire a body of foundational knowledge essential to more advanced studies in all subject areas. Excellent instruction in the arts (fine arts and music) develops creative gifts and deeper understanding of beauty and history. Physical Education is also taught. All important components in a well-rounded course of study.
  • Extensive Training in Reading and Writing
Beginning with comprehensive phonics instruction, students are guided directly to the reading and enjoyment of the best in children's literature. The "tools" necessary for constructing well-written sentences, paragraphs, and reports are acquired through carefully guided instruction and repeated practice. Students will develop their thinking, writing and study skills as they study and imitate the great writers of history.
  • Introductory Study of Latin and our Western Cultural heritage
The study of Latin provides many proven benefits including increased vocabulary skills, advanced thinking skills, and a foundation for the study of other languages. Classical language study begins in 3rd grade with an introduction to Latin grammar and syntax and beginning translation work. English grammar is more completely understood and appreciated as Latin study continues. The understanding of Latin culture provides a critical context to understanding our Western cultural heritage. A narrative and linear approach to history brings history to life and develops understanding for more advanced study.

Veritas Middle (Logic) School Coursework Distinctives

The Veritas Logic School builds on the strong Lower School foundation, continuing and expanding on its core distinctives: an integration of the Christian worldview, quality instruction in core academic disciplines, extensive training in reading and writing and the study of Latin language and Western culture.

In the middle grades, students move from concrete to more abstract thinking. Thus, students have a greater appetite and capacity to discuss, debate and argue over issues both great and small. Our Middle School is a place of inquiry and dialogue geared to meet the intense curiosity of teenage students. Our teachers lead students in interactive class discussions, prompting students to think deeper about issues and ideas, and training students to respectfully and forcefully express their opinions in spoken and written word. Students will also be introduced to the basic concepts of debate.

In our formal Logic class in 7th and 8th grade, students learn to construct sound arguments, to identify logical fallacies and to think critically about issues of importance. Students will receive the tools for sound reasoning needed for high school and life.

In the 7th and 8th grades, students take an integrated History and Literature course designed to deepen understanding of great ideas and cultural change. Through extensive use of primary sources and great books, students learn that ideas have consequences and develop their skills of discernment by engaging texts of various worldviews from a Biblical perspective.

Beginning in 6th grade, students will begin a three year course in Spoken Word. Spoken Word is the mastering the elementary skills of speech which includes posture, breathing, self-control and speaking primarily in unison for public presentation. While breathing life into both the written word and educated argument, this class aims at producing confident and provoking public speakers who can communicate to a diverse audience with intelligence.

The Middle School student expands their study of art and music to hone their skills of creativity and beautiful expression while deepening their understanding of history.
